American Legacies Org is a nonprofit organization run by Christians that are dedicated to working with and for Senior Citizens mentally, physically as well as emotionally.
Memories are not a motion picture. They are individual snapshots of something you saw, heard, felt, tasted or smelled.
After all, one of the many lessons some of us have learned over the years is that just because we can remember something today, there is no guarantee that memory will still exist next year.
So, we originally began with the goal of encouraging others to share anything they remember about various family members as well as the lifestyles, music, clothing, transportation and romance during their younger years.
We asked individuals about the stories their grandparents or great-grandparents shared or even something such as their favorite Christmas Memories shared with family.
Then we offered a FREE service collecting, publishing and preserving those stories gathered from senior citizens, in order to share those memories and stories about the historic lifestyles and family information with the younger and even future generations.
In addition to collecting, preserving and publishing these stories, we offer many other programs designed primarily around Senior Citizens that are 100% FREE such as:
- While we spend time talking with them, in order to gather and record their memories of life, family and local history, we also find out what physical needs these Senior Citizens have around their homes, so that we can assist them with “minor” repairs or maintenance on their property, as a FREE service.
- We also offer regular visits, conversing with individuals in Nursing Homes, that do not get visits from family members, so they will know they are not forgotten and that others care about them.
- We also offer FREE meals complete with conversations, companionship, and entertainment during holidays that are focused on family gatherings, such as Thanksgiving and Christmas.
In order to provide these free services, we are looking for assistance in the following areas.
- Financial donations needed to support meals, home repairs and publishing of family and historic information.
- Pastors and/or Christian business executives willing to sit on one of our executive or advisory boards as volunteers.
- Teenage volunteers willing to mow or weed-eat a small number of “little” yards or shovel snow off porches as a FREE service.
- Handymen or bonded contractors willing to “occasionally” provide minor repairs or maintenance for seniors in need.
- Volunteers willing to go to nursing homes on regular visits, simply to talk with lonely seniors, at least one or two hours per month and record their conversations.
- Volunteers willing to visit seniors in their homes and spend at least an hour per visit, talking with them and recording the conversations.
- Volunteers willing to help cook and/or serve FREE meals on Christmas Day.
- Churches willing to allow us to use their kitchen and dining facilities on Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day to offer FREE meals to seniors that don’t have family members close enough to share the day with.
- Caring individuals all across America that would be willing to help build new chapters of American Legacies Org in their communities, in order to help preserve family and community historical information.
Thank you and may the Holy Spirit watch over, guide and protect you and your family.
