Happy birthday to Tom Selleck who turned 79 years old today(January 29, 2024).
During the 1980s, Tom Selleck was mostly known for the TV series Magnum, P.I. Frank Sinatra was a fan of the show, so much that he volunteered to be in it and even offered to do it for expenses only. Tom Selleck loved the idea and called Sinatra personally. Selleck said they would write an episode especially for him and asked him what he wanted to do.
In 1987, Frank Sinatra guest starred in the episode Laura. He played a retired New York cop who tries to track down the murderers of his granddaughter, intent on killing them. Sinatra was 71 years old and had undergone emergency colon surgery a few months earlier.
Barbara Sinatra: “It was an incredibly energetic role for a man of any age, never mind someone in his seventies wearing a colostomy bag. But Frank refused to let that darn bag beat him. In what turned out to be his final major acting role, he did almost all his own stunts, including fight scenes, running up ladders and over roofs, as well as acting his heart out in a tropical shirt. His energy never ceased to amaze me.”
Tom Selleck said that Sinatra was lovely to work with and that he was proud to say that Sinatra was great in the show and that it was a big deal for them.
