I wrote "A Mother's Prayer" as a special request when a young couple approached me in an all night restaurant and asked me for something that would reflect the feelings of a woman as she was about to give birth to her first child.
So, I was hoping a 'Man" could capture a respectful and acceptable response. While the image is different, these are the actual words I printed out for that young future mother.
Hope all mothers have a wonderful day, filled with joy, memories and love.

A Mother's Prayer
By Franklin T. Wike
Dear God,
In your infinite wisdom,
when you created a man and woman's body so different and yet so compatible,
that when they share a special tender moment of love,
they could also create a new life,
you gave me a SPECIAL JOY that I will remember and cherish for the rest of my life.
As I sit here feeling this NEW PERSON growing inside me,
a living being that is connected to me,
a part not only of my flesh and blood,
but also a result of the great love that I have shared with my husband,
I feel closer to you as the creator of all living things.
As I experience this miracle of being able to feel a human being growing inside me,
combined with the knowledge that this baby is completely dependent on me
to give it nourishment and keep it healthy for 9 months,
I realize this is only the beginning of the unconditional love
that it takes for a mother to spend a lifetime
taking care of, teaching, and protecting her child.
As this new life comes into this world,
I will love this great gift that you have bestowed upon me forever
and I am looking forward to the first time
that I will get a chance to hold this precious child in my arms.
I am also anxiously anticipating so many other special moments
such as hearing my baby say, "Mama" for the first time,
watching a first step being taken,
the first day at school, first date,
and maybe even my first grandchild some day.
I realize that no matter how old or how big this child becomes,
it will always be, "my baby" my own flesh and blood
and I pray that you will help me to show my child
all of the good and wonderful things this world has to offer.
I also ask that you will take care of my baby
and lead this child down a path that I will be proud of
as well as one that will honor and praise you.
