William H. Gieske Jr., 83, of Nazareth, Pa., submitted a variety of information about his life and memories to American Legacies Org, for preservation, shortly before he passed away.
He passed away Thursday, December 15, 2005 in St. Lukes Hospital, Fountain Hill, Pennsylvania. He was the husband of Marian E. (Myers) Gieske, who passed away October 6, 2005.
Born July 18, 1923 in Bethlehem, Pa., he was the son of the late William H. Gieske Sr. and Gertrude R. (Zettlemoyer) Gieske.
A graduate of Liberty High School in 1941, he was employed by Bell Telephone, now Verizon, for 37 years. He retired in 1985 as a supervisor.
He served in the Army during World War II in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and central Europe. He was a life member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the American Legion; Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge; Easton Fish and Game Association, and Guthsville Rod & Gun Club. He served in a leadership capacity for several civic organizations including the 4-H Club, Boy Scouts, SPCA, and others.
He was survived by three sons, William and his wife, Marlene, Robert, Richard and his wife, Jacqueline; two daughters, Sandra Brown and her husband, Larry and Bonnie Gieske as well as a brother, Neal; 12 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia Gieske Perna.
Military Services were held on December 20, 2005 in the George G. Bensing Funeral Home Inc., Moorestown. PA.
Interment was at the Fairview Cemetery, Bethlehem, PA.
Contributions were made to the World War II Memorial Fund in care of the funeral home, 2165 Community Drive, Bath, Pa. 18014.
