Adopt-A-Grandparent Program

Bringing Friendship, Preserving Memories, and Honoring Lives

American Legacies Organization is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to preserving the memories, family histories, traditions, and life experiences of everyday Americans.

One of our outreach programs, Adopt-A-Grandparent, is designed to bring companionship,

encouragement, and meaningful conversation to elderly individuals that have family members who live far away or are unable to visit as often as they would like.

Our trained volunteers seek to fill that gap by becoming caring friends who visit seniors on a regular basis—weekly, monthly, or as arranged.

Our visits are not intended to replace family. Instead, we hope to become a caring presence by spending

time listening, talking, laughing, and sharing life's experiences with those who simply enjoy having

someone to visit with.

Conversations may include family history, childhood memories, holiday traditions, military service, careers, hobbies, faith, community life, favorite recipes, or any other topic the resident wishes to discuss. If a resident prefers simply to enjoy friendly conversation about current events or everyday life, we are equally happy to do so.

For residents who wish to preserve their memories for distant or future family members, our volunteers will offer the opportunity to record audio or video interviews.

Participation in being recorded is completely voluntary, and recordings are made only with the

resident's written permission and in accordance with family or facility policies and approval.

Since 1996, American Legacies Organization has helped preserve hundreds of personal and family histories. These recordings and written histories often become treasured gifts for children, grandchildren, and future generations. Many families have expressed deep gratitude for receiving the voice, stories, and memories of a loved one years after that individual has passed away.

There is never any obligation to participate in a recorded interview. Our first priority is simply providing friendship, respect, and compassionate conversation.

If you would enjoy having one of our trained volunteers visit with you, please let us or a member of your family, a neighbor or a facility's staff know. They will be happy to help arrange a visit.

Thank you for allowing American Legacies Organization the privilege of serving you.
