Sarah C. Clark nee Wike of Lancaster, PA

By Bill and Linda Clark

Sarah C. Wike was born in 1898 and passed away in 1980. She is buried at Ebenezer Cemetery in Lebanon, PA. She was married to William Clark for several years, then a few years after he passed away, she married a man by the name of Roland Reinke. This man was rather rough with her. As far as when or where she was married to her first husband, we don’t know.

Sarah had no children of her own, but they adopted two children. A son, my husband, who they named William Clark Jr, and a girl they named Nancy. No one seems to know where Nancy is anymore. Sarah had three brothers, Charles Wike, Robert Wike and George Wike. She had one sister named Mary Plant.

As for Sarah’s husband, William, he came from Philadelphia, PA. No one knew too much about his family background. There was a rumor at one time that he might be related to Dick Clark of the old American Bandstand TV show, but it was never checked into. Sarah’s husband drove a coal truck for a living for J. W. Reber & Sons of Lebanon, PA. From what I was told, he used to drink a lot, but when they adopted kids, he stopped drinking, cold turkey as they say, and never drank again.

Sarah also had several nieces and nephews. Her brother, Robert, had 23 children. 14 are still living. Her brother, George had five children. The four boys are dead and the girl, Viola, is still living. Her brother, Charles, had seven children. Don’t know how many of them are still alive, yet. Her sister, Mary, had 23 children, but we don’t know how many of them are still living.

Bill and I adopted a girl when she was 3 years old, so Sarah had one grandchild. Her name was Terrie Clark, but she married and her married name is Terrie Kohl. If Sarah had lived she would have been great grandma to our six grandchildren, Samantha, 17 years old, Amanda, 14 years old, Joseph, 12 years old, Brittany, 11 years old, Wayne, 7 years old and Tammy, 6 years old. We are proud grandparents of them, and I know Sarah would have spoiled them rotten as she did their mother, our daughter, Terrie.
