Christmas Past

In 1928 at the age of 5, my grandfather was building a table and chairs for my mother for Christmas. On Christmas Eve when he was bringing it down from the attic, my mother who was to be sleeping there on the day bed (sofa), wasn’t. She didn’t dare let on that she was lying there awake, he would have been so angry! He had painted it a beautiful bright red.

They would also get a new pair of shoes and a new dress. Hence the old story when I was your age I had to walk a mile to school in the snow with holes in my shoes! I think we have all heard that story told.

In those days she told me toys weren’t bought from the store like they are now, her daddy always made them for her and her sister. During her bout with Diphtheria she was playing with the table and pencil box, she tapped on it like it was a (money box) cash register. The Doc came and said she must have been feeling pretty well to be playing, she said yes sir; would like to put some money in my box? Times have changed since those days, though to my mothers account, I will say that like her father she also took great care making furniture for a Barbie Doll house she had made for me. She was so creative using frozen orange juice containers and empty tuna fish cans making tables, foot stools and chairs. It was the best dressed doll house anywhere.

Make wonderful memories that will be handed down through the generations this holiday season. May you all have a Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

For our readers, who have Internet access, please take some time to visit and participate on the many message boards available. It is a great and easy tool to use and a wonderful way to share. As a side note; in trying to assist you along in your search, our goal is to have the largest free listing of names on the Internet. So let me encourage you to become active participants with us to reach our goal. By sending in obituaries, cemetery, census, ship passenger listings, and engagement, wedding and birth announcements, you can help us to reach our goal. If you haven’t already done so, send in your genealogy information in GED format so it may be added to the database.

If you do not have Internet access, send your family information to us here at U S Legacies Magazine and one of our volunteers will enter the information for you.

Genealogy How To #7 Using Pedigree Charts for an Overview of Your Family

Ok, so now you have your family information recorded, grouped together in an organized fashion. This is a very good time to take a look at your ancestors in a Family Pedigree Chart.

Pedigree Charts only record your direct-line ancestors i.e. you, your parents, your grandparents, great grandparents and so forth. You will find the range from 4 to 6 generation formats.
