Received: Dear U.S. Legacies,
Currently I am stuck at my ggg-grandparents, George McCauley (McCawley) 1797?-1828 and Catherine Schroyer (Schreyer) 1792-1868.
Both were born in Pennsylvania (according to 1880 census returns on two of their sons, Samuel and George Jr.) I cannot find their birth records and so, cannot trace their parents. There is a big concentration of McCauleys (with various spellings) in the records of the Campbelltown Ev. Lutheran Church (just west of Lebanon PA) in the 1790s-1820s. None of them seem to dovetail with my George, however. There also seems to be a William McCawley wandering around Lebanon and the surrounding townships in the tax rolls of 1778-1781.
George and Catherine were married on October 14, 1810, at the Salem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lebanon PA. They had 9 children, 7 boys and 2 girls. The names of the children I know are as follows:
--Solomon (1811-1862) married Catherine Fisher (1808-1872) Lavinia (1814-?)
--Phillip (1815-1853) died in New Holland, Lancaster, Co, PA.
--William (1818-?) Samuel (1819-1888). My gg-grandfather married Louisa Maxwell in 1841 at Sparta, Buchanan County, Missouri.
--Jacob (1825-?)
--George Jr (1828-1888) Married, had two daughters in Lebanon, divorced, traveled around, visited his brother Samuel in Missouri in late 1870s and early 1880s and is buried in Mt. Lebanon Cemetery, Lebanon, PA. Then George and Catharine moved from Lebanon, PA, to Caernarvon Twp, Lancaster Co. around 1812, then to Berks Co. Heidelberg Twp in 1825. After George Sr. died in early 1828, the widow moved with her children back to Lebanon, PA where she resided until her death in 1868.
I have yet to find Georges gravesite. Solomon, Catherine McCauleys first-born, became a large landowner in Lebanon Twp. Solomon McCauleys oldest son, Phillip Fisher McCauley, owned a shoe shop on Cumberland St. in Lebanon during the 1870s.
Anyone out there with any clues to the whereabouts of George and Catherine’s parents, I would be most grateful to hear from you

Foust and Gruber
HI! I am searching for the Foust and Gruber surnames. Can anyone help? Thank you so muchAnonymous Guest

Both of those names sound of the German/Swiss heritage. Gruber is quite common among the Amish of today and I have run across the Foust names in PA Dutch backgrounds.
It would help if you had a starting point and/or location. Do you have any first names, dates and locations so we can help narrow down the field?

Walter King
Hello,
I am looking for information about the family of Walter King, born 1802 in Maryland. He had four daughters, including Sarah, who married Benjamin Dial of Knox County, Ohio in 1857. They later moved to Effingham County, Illinois. After Sarah’s death in 1888, he returned to Ohio, where he married Nanette Wolverton Tweede, and they had a daughter, Mabel, born 1895.
I am also searching for information about the ancestors of James Grant, born 1799 in South Carolina and died in 1855 in Henry County, Georgia. He may have been related to Giles Grant, whose descendants eventually settled in Alabama. James’s wife was probably Nancy/Ann/Charlotte Anderson, also born in South Carolina. They and their family settled in Henry County and DeKalb County, Georgia. Later, their son William Miles Grant settled in Ouachita Parish, Louisiana, with his wife Elizabeth Permelia Young Grant and their children. Some of their descendants, including a grandson Alton Victor Grant, settled in Texas.

Response to a Genealogy Message Posted by Franklin Wike
Your grandfather and my grandfather were brothers. My grandfather was George Raymond Wike born 12/30/04 and he married Edna Chronister. They had a sister named Sarah who married a Clark. He had another brother Robert but went by Bob. I know of these two because when I was little my dad George or Sonny use to take me to visit them. Franklin Thomas’s father is Elias born 1835. If you pull the census from 1870 you will see Elias, Sallie, Agnes, and Henry there. That is all the further I go but I am not giving up. I am still doing research on him. Franklin married Mary Weiller and her parents were born in Germany I am still working on them too. I have a photo of my grandfather and my sister has a photo of our great grandparents or else it is our g-g-grandparents, I will find out and get a copy of it. I’ll get some pictures to you.
What have you heard about my dad? I hope good things. I can tell you this he was a man that took nothing from anyone, he would stand up to you know matter how big you were he was not afraid. He drove a race car and was a good provider for his family. My dad died March 16, 1999, I miss him very much but I thank God I do have good memories. I have an Aunt that I am trying to reach because she has been in the family for 50 years and she might have some information or pictures too. I have a cousin that has her mother’s Bible and that might have some valuable information and I will check on pictures too. I have been going to the library to get my information and what I’m doing is just going back to the grandparents.
Do you know if Franklin our great-grandfather had any brothers or sisters? I think he did cause I remember my dad talking about them. But I have to have proof and I don’t right now. Do you know if we have any relatives in Chicago area? My dad had said something about his Aunt being a doctor. That him and his dad would drive up there and pick her up for our g-grandfather. I will sit down this week and send you the information I have on my grandfather George Raymond Wike.
God Bless.
Shirley
