Will of Jacob Wike

Will Book I, P. 336-38 April Sessions 1835 Lincoln Co, NC

In the will of God, amen, I, Jacob Wyke, of the county of Lincoln

and State of North Carolina, being of sound mind and perfect memory,

blessed be God for the same; do this 14th day of February 1835

constitute, ordain, and publish this, my last will and testament in

manner and form following. To Wit: I first bequeath my body to the

earth and from whence it was taken, to be buried in a decent Christian

manner, and my soul to God who gave it. I will that all of my just

debts, burial and expenses be paid first.

I give and bequeath to my beloved wife Susannah, two beds and

furniture, her choice of my beds, one chest and also my dresser and as

much of my furniture as she wishes to keep for her use and also of the

pots and other kitchen furniture as she wants for her use and also one

cow and calf her choice of my stock and seventy dollars in money.

I give and bequeath to my beloved son David Wyke my plantation where

I now live on containing two hundred and ninty acres, also still and

vessels to him and his heirs forever, and also my waggon and windmill.

And my son David is to furnish his mother yearly with the following

articles. To Wit: 10 bushels of weat, 20 bushels of corn, 200th port,

10th sugar, and 10th coffee and also find her in flax, cotton, wool

sufficient for her clothing, and she is to have her priviledge in the

house that I now live in and find her in firewood and wash for her if she

wants it done and find her in salt sufficient for her use and also find

her cows during her natural life and at her death to be equally divided

amongst my children.

I give and bequeath to my beloved Catherine Deal, Elizabeth Deal,

Susannah Cline, Polly Setzer, Phebe Douglass and Sally Wyke, four hundred

dollars each, only Phebe Douglass must account for $25.00 for her horse

worth more than the others. I will and bequeath to my daughter

Catherine, wife of Jacob Deal, one negro boy Lawson and a negro girl

named Carline, both at $525 by her paying $125 instead of the $400 I have

willed her in the article above. I also will and bequeath to Polly wife

of Daniel Setzer one negro girl named Maria at $375.00 in place of the

above $400 and she is to get $250.00, also I will and bequeath to my

daughter Sally Wyke one negro girl named Michal at $150.00 instead of the

$400 and she is to get $250.00, also I will to my daughter Sally 2 cows

and calves, one sow and pigs, one ewe and lamb, 2 bedsteads and

furniture, one spinning wheel and pair of cards and dresser furniture and

one table and one chest and kitchen furniture. As to the other of my

black ones, I will that if I should decease before I sell them that my

executor sell them to whoever may buy them and the remainder which is not

willed shall be sold and equally divided amongst all my children because

my sons John and Jacob have each received of my $400.00 for which reason

they shall be equal in receiving the balance of my estate except Jacob

who has received $415.00.

I do hereby revoke all other wills by me heretofore made and do

ordain, constitute, and make this my last will and testament and do

ordain, constitute and appoint my beloved son David Wyke, executor of

this, my last will and testament, in witness whereof I, the said Jacob

Wyke have hereunto set my hand and seal to this my last will and

testament the day and year above written.

Signed, Sealed, Published and delivered by the said Jacob Wyke the Testator as his Jacob Wyke (seal) last will and testatment in the presence of us who was present at the time of signing and sealing thereof.
