Currently I am stuck at my ggg-grandparents, George McCauley (McCawley) 1797?-1828 and Catherine Schroyer (Schreyer) 1792-1868.
Both were born in Pennsylvania (according to 1880 census returns on two of their sons, Samuel and George Jr.) I cannot find their birth records and so, cannot trace their parents.
First of all I would like to express how much I’m enjoying my work with the Good Old Days column. I’m learning so much and really appreciating all of the participation from everyone in sharing their memories and bits of family history.

Follow-up to WH Howard
From Milton Long
As a follow-up on the article about WH Howard in the February issue of the U. S Legacies, I was able to furnish this picture of WH, which I took of him in the Seigfried line in January 1945. I provided the family with information about our unit and the part WH played in winning the war.

There’s a little church where we used to go.
You may recall, it was St. Joe.
Hard Scrabble, was a nickname,
It wasn’t famous, nor held no fame.
Our mom and dad, always faithful and true,
For miles they walked, the best they could do.
With Harold, Richard, Jean, Norma and Linda too,
We went to Church, Fountain Ferry and Zoo.

USS Comfort
From Thomas Dwayne Atkins
I served on USS Comfort AH6 at the time of the suicide plane hit.
I was EM/2c at the time of my departure from the ship.
There is one other member of my group that I am in touch with by e mail and and have visited at his home in Oregon.
